How long should I wait before handling my new baby ball python?

I just bought a captive bred 1 month old ball and put it in the cage yesterday. I was told to leave it in the cage for a week before I handle it. Any suggestions?

It really depends on the snake, but you should not handle it for at least a week. Then, only handle it a few minutes a day at first and extend it gradually. Usually snakes (and Balls in particular) will require a "settling in" period to get used to their new environment.

The problem with handling Balls is that they tend to get stressed easily and then they may have difficulty eating. If your snake is eating for you weekly, then that is a good sign that your snake will tolerate additional handling.

If your snake refuses to eat, do not handle at all until he eats consistently.
