Can't decide on what kind of housing for my king snake ?
I've been looking at new tanks and cages and terrariums for my king snake the past two weeks and am having trouble deciding on what kind i should get. I've found very nice acrylic tanks that are a good size but I've found all mesh ones twice the size for a same price. I know California kings don't need to be that humid (unless shedding) but I live i Washington state and it gets pretty cold here. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Glass aquarium--20 gallon long
A top that allows sealing of heat such as a screen lid with separate light lid on top that block heat from rising. An under tank heater in colder months is a good idea, but do not get concerned if the temp drops to 60 as these snakes are capable of a type of hibernation. If this is a young snake 2 years or less, I would keep in a rubbermaid container til over 3 feet. These hold heat well. A cheap mesh enclosure may be nice to have for summer months since they are cheaper, but will not be a good answer for cooler months. Use newspaper or paper towels for a substrate. They do not look as good as other things, but provides the best substrate in terms of ease of cleaning resistance to harboring bacteria. Also newspaper is cheap. Good luck
