Has anyone tried using this bulk (and very inexpensive) filter media?
I'm just wondering if anyone has ever tried using this in your HOB aquarium filter instead of the filters that you purchase pre cut at the pet store? Do you think this would work well? I have several aquariums, and am on a budget! I could make 250 filter cartridges out of this much. Any suggestions?

if you have a tetra hob, this will soon be your only option. Whisper/tetra has started a new line and has discontinued the classic cartridges for it's hang on back models. (i work at a fish store)
i you want really good filtration --cheap, i recommend that you get some aquaclear sponges and cut to size. this can be put in the filter with the pond media. The sponges never need to be replaced, just squished out in the old Water during your aquarium cleanings.
contrary to popular belief you do not need carbon to have healthy fish tanks! Most enthusiasts don't even bother with carbon unless they are trying to remove medication from the water.
