Tips For Successful Gardening With Hydroponic Herbs

The mysteries of hydroponic gardening seems overwhelming to many when it is really a simple system and many people these days produce wonderful herbs right in their own kitchen. Many individuals do not like gardening outside due to the insects, getting muddy or soiled, lack of space and many other reasons. This form of gardening has none of the detriments of outdoor gardening and one could easily start by growing hydroponic herbs.

Hydroponic herbs gardening is not dependant on growing cycles that the outdoor garden is. The area needed to produce a very nice selection of herbs is not as large as an outdoor garden, so hydroponic herbs gardening is possible even in the city.

Cuttings, rather than seed, are easier for a gardener with little or no experience. Cuttings have already started growing and will allow you to start a harvest sooner than if you had to wait for seeds to sprout. The herbs sit in baskets that have rock wool in the bottom to hold the roots in place. Each basket is suspended about a quarter inch from the solution that holds the nutrients for the plants. Although if you decide to use seed, cover the seeds with about one quarter inch of perlite or rock wool.

Nutrient solutions for growing hydroponic herbs can be found in already prepared mixed fluid and in dry form as well. The tray that holds the nutrient solution is layered with air stones, such as the type used in aquariums. This pumps oxygen into the nutrient solution. Nutrients, Water and oxygen are delivered to the plant roots for healthy growth with this system.

Hydroponic Herbs do phenomenally well with artificial lighting. This constant source of light helps the plants grown strong and produces steady amounts of fresh leaves that can be pinched off as needed.
