Can pet mice escape an aquarium?
Even if you have a lid specifically designed for the top? I am getting females, do they smell?
I have 2 baby dwarf hampsters, which aren't much bigger than normal-sized mice. I have a glas cage for them, with a lid that locks in place to it. The lid has circular feeding holes (where you can just drop food in and not take the whole lid off the cage), which has covers that lock in place over the holes.
I don't have anything in the cage that would allow them to make their way anywhere near the top of it. Just a wheel, a cardboard tube, their Water bottle, feeding dish, and the plastic castle that they sleep in.
I really don't think any particular sex of such small rodents as mice stinks anymore than the other. If you are concerned with how much they're going to stink, I would get bedding that is not only absorbant, but has a safe odor fighter. With the kind I have, I can't even smell my hampsters, just their food, LOL! And believe me, they're little poop machines!
I would go to a place like Petsmart, if you have one in your area, and ask about what cage would work best, and if there might be anything else you should have that might be safer. You can also ask about the bedding. The kind I have is Carefresh Pet Bedding. I got a 60 Liter bag for 18 bucks, which is very inexpensive. You can get smaller bags for around 5 or 6.
