what substrate is best for growing aquatic plants?

I am thinking about putting some aquatic plants in my betta's 10 gallon tank. What is the best substrate for growing them besides sand?

There are basically three substrates that I've seen everyone use.

People say that AquaSoil is one of the best, but the drawback is that when you plant plants, it clouds the Water really badly.

Flourite has a LOVELY natural color, but it's a pain to rinse in the beginning. But after you put it in your tank and it settles, it barely clouds once you plant.

Eco-Complete is a nice black color and provides many nutrients to plants. I haven't heard of any complaints other than people's water hardness shooting up, but I think there could be more.
