ball python poisonous
ball pythons? .... snakes?

my boyfriend left for basic training and he asked me to watch his snake (ball python) so i agreed

butt i don't know anything about them...

first off
hes still a baby, about eight months and about 18 inches long, how much and how often should i feed him?

next,
my boyfriend kept him in a glass fish tank, butt it looks so empty and depressing, all it has in it is a log and a Water bowl and some bark to cover the bottom, it also has a heat light on the tank...
butt what else could i put in it to make the snake(presley) more comfortable, he always seems so scared...

also, this may sound dumb to some people, but ill admit i know nothing about snakes, are ball pythons poisonous? nad if i do get bit, how bad dose it hurt, i mean like whats something that it could be compared to? if i do get bit what should i do?

can some one please help!!!

the tank is fine for the snake. if you want too you can get a plastic vine that it can climb on. for feeding him he should eat a rodent a little bit bigger than the thickest part of the snake...there should be a tiny bump in the snake after he eats. if you can find them it would be best to start with pinkie rats...ball pythons can be really hard to switch to rats later in life...believe me i have two adult ball pythons that will not switch to rats. also when you feed him be sure to use a feeding tub. the reasons to tub feed your snake is because this will keep your snake from getting substrate in its mouth also your snake will associate the tub with eating and not his tank. get a plastic tub (target or walmart) large enough for your snake to fit in comfortable and move around some. get a tub that is short rather than tall. drill holes along the sides at the top and also drill holes in the lid for airflow. put your snake in the feeding tub then drop the mouse/rat in. after your snake eats if he is prone to bite after eating then put the lid on and leave him for about 20 minutes or so then put him back up. dont handle him for 24 - 48 hours after he eats...if you handle him too soon he might regurgitate his food.
if the snake bites you at this size it feels kind of like rough sand paper on your skin...it doesn't hurt at all it will draw a little blood. i've had my two ball pythons for 3 years...the male has bitten me a handful of times but only during feeding time and the female has never bitten me. now they are so docile that i can literally drape on of the snakes over my shoulders while the other one eats. if you do get bitten after you put the snake back up just wash the area where you got bitten...bites can get infected...snakes eat mice so their mouths are kinda dirty. i got a mild infection once from a kingsnake bite.
if your boy friend brought the snake from his house to yours even though the snake is still in the same tank you still need to give it about 7 days or so to get used to being in a new place...dont handle it or feed it for that period of time...after that you can start handling it a little bit. handling him will help him to calm down.
oh yeah they are not venomous.
good luck with the little fellow...really the only thing you have to worry about is that by the time your boy friend comes back from basic you are going to want to keep the snake.
