crocodile a reptile
what is the difference between an alligator and a crocodile?

When I think of an Alligator I think of a green reptile with a long narrow snout. Whereas a Crocodile is brown/gray and has a more blunt body and snout. But I just watched a program that totally reverses my view. I thought the Izod icon on their shirts which shows a slender green reptile with a narrow snout was an alligator.

An Alligator has a shorter, rounder tip to it's snout than a Crocodile. Crocodile's have longer, narrower snouts. Also, Alligators have teeth that are within the jaw when their mouths are closed, while Crocodiles have teeth that protrude out the sides when their mouths are closed.

There are also Cayman, which look a Lot like Alligators, and Gaviels, which have "very" long thin snouts and feed exclusively on fish.
