Amar Mehta's heart was a mixture of joy and pain. It reminded him of a day 25 years back when his daughter Rimi was born. Pain is a physical thing. It passes with time. But happiness stays. With the celebrations in full swing downstairs, one could hear the guests moving around and girls singing. The bharatis were expected in a few hours from now. He stood still. Eyes glued to the beautiful, wooden Designer Wall Hanging Photo Frame in front of him. The second picture was of Rimi, the toddler. Cuddled in her Mom's lap in her diapers.
In three more hours, maybe four, she would be gone. As a father, his heart was an ocean of emotions. The third 6 x 4-inch picture beckoned him. His six-year-old daughter in her yellow frock and an orange Water-bottle around her neck, on her first day to school. Clinging tightly to Daddy. He was and would always remain her ultimate hero.
His eyes moved further. There were six landscape and six portrait pics in all. One was a toothless Rimi being awarded Miss Fancy Dress in her 2nd standard. Then a lanky Rimi in her early teens. A school farewell pic, Rimi submerged in her mom's blue saree, smiling shyly at the camera.
The bride would be dressed by now in her red lehenga. His eyes rushed towards the door and then back to the Designer Photo Frame on the wall. The next picture was a landscape family photo. A slightly grey headed him and his wife with their young daughter. More pics of her college days. Their little daughter was a young lady by now. Full of life, full of ideas.
The Designer Photo Frame had captured all the special moments of her time in that house. All the years that had flown by, were captured right there in the Photo Frame for him to cherish. At this moment his wife walked in, together they looked at their daughter's life-story spread across these pictures. One space was still vacant. At this moment someone called them downstairs. The beautiful bride was entering the hall. Amar looked into his wife's eyes and smiled. Time for filling the last space in the frame.
