What kind of snake is this? Pictures inside...?

Is this a garter snake maybe? It was on the front of my house by my window. I caught it but it got away. I live in Southwest Texas on the Water, if it will make it easier to narrow down what kind would be in this area. Thanks!

That is an immature Texas Rat Snake(Elaphe obsoletta lindheimerii), a very common non-venomous species of TX. The Great Plains Ratsnake is much lighter colored, especially as a youngster, with a proportionally smaller head, more like a Corn Snake(they were considered to be a subspecies of Corn for a long time before being given separate species status). I've had and bred both TX Rats and Emory's Rats(Great Plains), and this is a TX. Southwest TX is also not within the range of the Emory's Rat, which is found in the northern parts of the state bordering Oklahoma.
