What is the key to keeping mollies healthy?
I have kept mollies but they all die in about a month. I would like to breed them but I don't know how to keep them alive. WHat is the key to keeping mollies healthy?
I've always kept mollies and seldom had any problems with them. And even though I have heard they like it brackish, I hardly ever add salt. I have found them to be pretty hardy fish when I was starting out. The only times I've had problems have been when the Water quality has slipped when a female was close to dropping. She has often produced still born instead of live fry when this happened. Not that she minded, since she saw them only as food anyway but there are some batches I would prefer to keep. Just pretty much don't mess with them and keep the water clean without adding stuff and it should go well.
It's possible the source you got your mollies from was the problem. See if you can get them from a different source, maybe that will help.
I can't give you a good lifespan, I've had some I'm attached to for about 2 years but most of the time I end up selling them once they reach 3-4 inches.
