The best kind of cleaners to use on your car carpet and upholstery are ones that do not need a Lot of Water or any liquids at all. Since there are many electronic parts and systems under the floorboards in your car, if you get the carpet too wet, you could damage other systems in your car. The way these cleaners work is that you sprinkle them on the dry carpet and let them sit. You can try to work them into the carpet a bit with a brush if you wish. After you let the powder or foam sit for about twenty to thirty minutes, you vacuum it up along with all of the dirt it attracted. The two types of cleaners work in different ways. The powders work on the principle of magnetism. The magnetic qualities of the powder attract the dirt to the powder. The foams use encapsulation. As the foam dries into a crystalline powder, the dirt is trapped within the crystals.
In cars, in addition to the carpet shampoos, you also need to think about car upholstery shampoo. The short answer is that you can use similar products on the upholstery that you use on the carpet. However, there are special upholstery cleaners out there that spray on like a water bottle rather than sprinkle on like a powder or cover like a foam.
