Perhentian Besar Malaysia, Palm Lined Beaches And Coral Reefs

It must be everyone's dream to have at least one holiday on a tropical island paradise before they die. It is certainly one of my goals, only I want to visit as many as possible. Perhentian Besar Malaysia is one of two islands situated on the South East of Malaysia with Besar being the larger of the islands.

Perhentian Kecil and Perhentian Besar make up the two small Perhentian islands, and both are equally beautiful. Perhentian Besar is the larger of the islands and therefore has a little more on offer. Vacations here are for the adventure loving eco, scuba diving, snorkeling, rain forest, beach loving tourist and if you are all of these, then you will have found the perfect place.

The Sea surrounding Perhentian Besar is the South China Sea and its nearby sister island is just a beautiful, only smaller, Perhentian Kecil! These are two of the most unusual and interesting holiday destinations in the world.

To reach your destination on the Island, you have to travel by boat from the mainland. This can be done the lazy tourist way or the speedy local way, but his is when the adventure really starts. The fast boat take a half hour while the slow boat takes approximately 1 and a ½ hours to travel the 20 miles from the mainland.
The attractions of Perhentian Kecil and Perhentian Besar attract many different types of vacationer, and even non-divers have plenty to do and see. But be warned the diving but catches on fast and you may just find yourself taking your first dive class. The islands are dotted with dive schools and all equipment can be hired.
Perhentian" means "stop-over" in Malatsian and many tourists holidaying in Malaysia, only come to the Islands to spend the day. Many end up stopping over and many end up never wanting to leave. Accommodation is available for every different budget, so you don't have to be rich to pay a visit.

The virgin rainforest here are perfect for a hiking adventure inland. The island abounds with wildlife and you may even be lucky enough to come across a troupe of Long-tailed Macaque. Visitors also see Monitor Lizards and flying fox when they venture into the interior, as well as other species.

Calm waters and beautiful beaches surround the islands which are one of the few nesting places of the "Giant Leatherback Turtle". The healthy coral grown makes this area one of the best dive spots in the world, and enforced conservation program ensure that endangered species, many fish and other species are kept safe and secure for posterity.

The smaller fish of the reefs also attract many of the larger predators such as Moray Eel. The corals are a mixture of both soft and hard species, with whip corals and sponges, mollusks and small reef fish. Plunging granite boulders and gentle sandy slopes make up the seascape of the islands and most good dive sites can be accessed by boat.

Submerged reefs do experience some stronger current, but for the most parts currents in the good dive sites are manageable for any swimmer. Around the Marine Parks island, you will find that marker buoys show you where the best dive sites are to be found.
