Are you allowed to take photos in stores or Zoos?

Just out of curiosity is it legal to take photos in stores? For example, there is the most beautiful candy store in my area. I would love to take some shots in there, Im assuming the Zoo is legal, but what about private zoos, for example, in my area there is a small reptile zoo. I know i could ask, but if they say no, well thats a little akward.

It is legal to take photos in any store, BUT in bad form to do so without permission. National chain stores are funny about photos taken in their stores, as they view their layouts, merchandising, and especially pricing as their trade secret. So, yes, ask to photo your candy store, they may be flattered.
As to zoos, it's legal and expected to take photos. However, it is against federal law to take ANY physical item from a zoo (feather, egg, plant, flower).
