Do you need an air stone for live plants if you already have a filter?
I'm just curious cuz I was going to go out and buy an air stone tomorrow if it was needed. I don't have the live plants yet either.
Water plants, just like non-water plants have a cycle of respiration and expiration. During the day, when they absorb the energy from the sun (or other light source), they live on Co2, and then during the night when they are resting, they consume Oxygen. Airstones will knock out the Co2 of the water providing more oxygen. So, for healthier plants you would need to put your "bubbler" on a timer that was off during the day and on at night time.
Some additional notes if you want live plants, make sure you have light source that can reach the depth of your plant life, or you will lose them anyway. Keep your glass covers clean so the light can get through. Make sure you clean your plants before putting them in with your fish, or else you can cause an outbreak of some disease or another (bad for the fish).
