Do Cottonmouth snakes leave a skunk smell when threatened?
I live in Oklahoma and absolutely love snakes....I know a Lot about them. The other day I found a snake I didn't get a very good look at it but it might have been a Cottonmouth but I don't think it relay was. It laid off a very fowl skunk-smell odor, I heard that Water moccasins (cottonmouths) will let of the skunk-smell sent. Is this true?
thanks for the answers!! (and it did strike at me I tried to catch it.) probably wasn't a good idea if it was a cottonmouth...
No but Garter snakes and Water Snakes do. They expel what is called Musk and it stinks. If you get it on you it often takes a couple of days for it to go away no matter how much you scrub.
