Tigers and exotic pets kept as pet......?
What do you think of the idea of keeping exotic pets. I'm talking more specifically things like Tigers and Lions, one of which the tiger that is extremely endangered.
I'm for keeping things like reptiles. It is much easier to provide a healthy living environment for a 10ft boa or a 30ft retic then it is for a 600 lb Tiger, food is also cheaper, and if you don't put them around your neck there is no chance of it killing you, pet Tigers have killed people before simply by scratching there legs bad enough they died of blood loss. Also if the animal is endangered or faces extinction in the wild then it shouldn't be kept as a pet.
What are your thoughts on exotic pets, what should be allowed what shouldn't?
I personally think if you have the knowledge and training to keep a tiger that it is your business. There need to be rules (Like proving your financial situation is ok, proving you have the proper escape proof housing, enough staff to help in an emergency, proper vet care ect.) and its NOT true that keeping a large 32+ foot snake is not more dangerous if you don't put it around your neck. My local Zoo almost lost a reptile keeper (he was a herp, kept large snakes) because the big female burmese python struck him when he was cleaning the cage, and wrapped herself around his chest and body, asphxiating him. It took 5 people to get her off. AND in one state there was a little girl killed by the family burmese python. He squeezed her to death, after escaping his cage. (The little girl helped feed him for years)
There is a risk with ANY pet of death (infection from a bite, hitting an artery, ect.) or injury.
I personally plan on owning a few exotics other than reptiles when I'm set with where I need to be. Either a Wolf, bobcat, or something along the lines of a large cat.
And if it is endnagered then why are they not being bred more? They should not be left to the wild to just die out. They should be caught, kept in captivity, then their offspring reintroduced more and more.
There are MANY that have kept large animals. The tiger mauling Sigfried and Roy was NOT an attack. If that tiger had plans of killing him he would have. There were problems in the show, and the tiger did not try and kill him or he would have. (Very easily I might add). If you know what you're doing, then you should be allowed to keep whatever you want.
I mean, if humans would have worked hard enough to domesticate some of the animals out there, they probably could have. If they were bred enough and trained enough they probably could have developed domesticated species of large cat, wild dog, ect.
