How come lizards don't fall off the walls?
Lizards do fall off sometimes, but the y usually are stuck p on the walls.......................I need the scientific fact on how the lizards don't fall off ..............
They have tiny modified hairs on the bottom of their toes. They all point in the same direction and adhere to anything that they can grasp....these hairs increase the surface area and concentrates all the animal's weight onto them while they are climbing.
It works sort of like Velcro ....... http://www.oregonl5.org/images/sr2002a1.jpg
http://www.oregonl5.org/l5sr02a.html = describes it in depth
EDIT: playfulstar :
Geckos are not distinguished as a class...they are recognized by their infraorder = Gekkota which are then divided into families (Eublapharidae and Gekkonidae). Gekkonidae is then further divided into 3 subfamilies(Gekkoninae, Diplodactylinae, and Sphaerodactylinae). NOTE* this is the liberal viewpoint and their is a conservative way of classifying them, but I opt fore the more liberal viewpoint.
And I can't really think of any other lizards that can climb vertical glass other than some geckos and anoles.
