How do I get photos like cobra snake? Specific camera? Photoshop techniques?

zi really like the focus and how its black in the background but i just don't know how to do that
Nikon D700 or Nikon D300 would work.
Doesn't appear to be much photoshopping going on really. They just used a flash and the dimmly lit background showed up naturally dark.
