How to keep a tank warm without a heater?
I have a small tank (under 5 gallons?) that has 11 small tetras in it. (I'm looking into getting a bigger tank but don't have the money right now.) My main problem is that now that it's getting cold out the temperature in the tank is going down. I need a way to keep the tank warm without using a heater. The tank doesn't have a space in the lid for one and I own some playful cats so taking the lid off completely is not an option I'm willing to risk taking. If anyone has any ideas I would be very thankful.
Before i even start, ur tank is overcrowded. U cant fit 11 tetras in a tank under 5 gallon. In fact, u need about more than 10 gallons BUT SINCE u will be getting a bigger tank, i wont see it as a problem
Anyways, In some cases its not recommended to heat a tank under 5 gallons, but its still possible. DO NOT use lamps. They can cause temperature swings. What i'll do, take the lid off and top it of with secured foam board or something like that, poke holes so oxygen can reach the water, and cut a hole for a small heater. Do note this is only a temporary solution. Leave some space between the foamboard and waterline
