Why do my snails keep dying on me?
I had 3 snails in my 5 gallon tank. They were fine for about a month, but then they're slowly dying one by one now. One died already so I threw it out (It was dead) and another one died today (I know it's dead) and the other is just in it's shell all the time, and it's trapdoor is pretty far back in it's shell then it used to be. Why do they keep dying? I haven't used any copper products!

I didn't feed them anything, but my fish gobble up the food pretty fast. I don't think theyre's enough algae in my tank either. They're apple snails/mystery snails by the way, and I THINK one is a black japanese trapdoor snail BUT IT MIGHT be a black mystery snail too.
For the first month they were REALLY active, but that was when I was using flakes. Now I switch to floating pellets, and they're not as active anymore.
Go back to using flakes. Is the Water warm enough? I keep my tank set at about 78 degrees. Are the fish picking on the snails? Sometimes your fish will kill them. What kind of fish are you keeping in there? Most guppies and platys won't mess with them, but mollies will at times. Good luck.
