Does anyone know the name of a turtle-like reptile that's eaten in China?
My Chinese housemate keeps talking about it, but she does not know the English name of the thing so I cannot find anything about it through regular search methods. Thanks for any help!
It is called the Chinese Soft-shelled Turtle. People in southern parts of China and Japan eat it in soup/stew. Supposed to promote health and longevity, but is now considered somewhat endangered, so it can be expensive.
I have had it a couple times. Definitely an acquired taste.
